California Proposition 8 - Elimination of Same Sex Marriage

why the hell are peoplke in this country so interested in who marries who? Shouldn't anyone who lives with someone else in a stable, permanent relation reap the benefits to socitey of such stable relationships-longer life, lower energy consumption, less crime (these things are true..) This all has to do with religion. I say ban religion, not same-sex marriage.

this is a much better direction to go with a prop 8 story. http://www.eightmaps.com/

Prop 8 may have been in CA, but it's implications are incredibly relevant to everywhere, including NY. Prop 8 sets the precedent that even if the courts have declared banning same sex marriage as being unlawful and discriminatory, uninformed and misguided voters can continue passing off tax paying gay citizens as being sub par. I'd be interested in RIT student's thoughts on this subject.

Prop 8 doesn't even affect NY. But there is an impending change to the definition of marriage. I'd be interested in the relationship between GLBT and religious communities on marriage. Show divorce rates by religious denomination (atheists divorce the least). Protestantism began so that Henry VIII could get a divorce. there's an angle for this story that works, but Prop 8 isn't the subject.

This article could cover what prop 8 is, but more importantly it would be a discussion of the implications of prop 8. Is it right to discriminate? Does prop 8 discriminate? What do RIT students feel about this law? Should it stay or go? As college students, we are preparing for the next phase of our lives, which for many people includes marriage. Does this law really reflect the future we want?

Maybe someone could explain, but I fail to see how this is relevant to RIT. It's an important issue, but I don't think anything we write in the school magazine about it is going to make a difference. People already know it passed and can follow the major media outlets for new developments.

I don't understand what this article would be about. Hasn't just about everyone heard about Prop 8 passing by now?
